From 1991 to 2000 John served as GTE Corporation's Director of Technology Affairs, where he was primarily responsible for the strategic assessment of technology, and of regulatory and market trends. He also worked at Contel Corporation for thirteen years (1978-91) where he dealt in corporate and communications law and strategic assessment.
Mr. Wohlstetter has lent his time and expertise serving several committees: as Senior Advisor to the Committee on Review of Synchronization, Switching and Network Control in National Security Telecommunications for the National Research Council (operating arm of the National Academy of Sciences) from 1986-89, which produced a Committee Report: Growing Vulnerability of the Public Switched Networks: Implications for National Security Emergency Preparedness (National Research Council, 1989).
In 1982 John served on the Conference Board of the Congressional Assistant Program, co-sponsored by The Brookings Institute, and on the Senate Budget Committee as Assistant to Chief Economist (Majority Staff – Republican), for which he analyzed domestic and international economic issues. He has also worked for Drexel Burnham Lambert International (1973-74) and Goldman Sachs & Co. (1969-73).
Mr. Wohlstetter has been involved in his community as a member and supporter of several associations: he is a member of the National Foundation for Facial Reconstruction in New York City; he supports Institute for Reconstructive Plastic Surgery of Tisch University Hospital; he serves on the Board of Directors for National Symphony Orchestra Association in Washington DC; he supports National Symphony Orchestra, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts; he serves on the Board of Trustees for Hudson Institute in Indianapolis where he does public policy analysis and consulting; and he has been on the Board of Trustees of the Billy Rose Foundation since 1996.
Since 1977, John has been involved in his political community as well: he served as Special Assistant to the Executive Director of Fundraising for the Mario M. Cuomo Mayoral Campaign; and he was Issues Chairman, placing articles and writing a white paper, for Americans for an Effective Presidency, a coalition of Democrats, Republicans, and Independents advocating the election of Ronald Reagan in 1980.
Mr. Wohlstetter earned his BBA in Finance at the University of Miami (1969), his JD at Fordham University School of Law (1977), and an MA in Public Policy (Telecommunications) at The George Washington University (1985).
